Plastic bags continue to be a huge source of contamination in the recycling stream in our curbside towns. In an effort to eliminate this contamination, the MUA has created “No Plastic Bag” stickers. The crew has been asked to place these on plastic bags they find at the curb. They will begin their tagging efforts in the coming weeks.
If a “No Plastic Bag” sticker is placed on the recyclables, our crew will not return to pick it up until next collection day when the plastic bags have been removed.
As a reminder, no plastic bags of any kind should be in the recycling container. As of January 2022, we no longer accept shredded paper in the recycling container. Therefore there are no exceptions to the plastic bag rule.
Please see the below photos. The MUA crew will be tagging with the pink stickers. We also have yellow stickers available to municipalities that decide to tag plastic bags on their own.

Thank you all for your efforts in recycling right in Morris County. As always please reach out to the Morris County MUA should you need anything.
