On January 16, 2019, the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority announced an important change in its plastic container recycling rules for its single-stream curbside recycling program.
Curbside Recycling Pick-Up
The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA) collects recycling materials curbside.
To ensure you receive collection, please place your recyclables at the curb the night before your scheduled collection, but no later than 5 a.m. the day of collection. The MCMUA cannot return to collect material that was put out later than 5 a.m. the day of collection.
Placement Times
Household garbage, recyclables, or grass clippings cannot be placed at the curbside before the following times on the day before collection day.
Time of Year | Time to Place Containers |
---|---|
October 1 through April 1 | No earlier than 4:30 p.m. on the day before collection |
April 2 through September 30 | No earlier than 6 p.m. on the day before collection |
Removal of Receptacles
All sanitation and recycling receptacles must be removed by the following times on collection day.
Location | Time to Remove Receptacles |
---|---|
Any Township street (except State Highway Route 10 and Ridgedale Avenue) | Before 7 p.m. on collection day |
State Highway Route 10 and Ridgedale Avenue | Before 11 a.m. on collection day |
Collection During Windy Conditions
If conditions are windy, place heavy items on top of lighter items (e.g, glass bottles on top of your plastic), or use lids. Until material is collected, it is the responsibility of residents to ensure that recycling does not blow around. If you do use lids, please label your containers to identify the material in the container. Free container labels are available in the General Office at the Municipal Building (1000 Route 10), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Missed Recycling & Other Complaints
If your recycling collection was missed, please call the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority at 973-659-3490 to report it. This is also the number to use when reporting a complaint or concern about recycling collection.
