There is a contract purchaser for Pine Plaza who is intending to redevelop the shopping center. For years the Pine Plaza Shopping Center has suffered from high vacancy and the lack of ability to attract new tenants to make the shopping center a viable part of Hanover Township. The property has been studied for a future redevelopment project and on Tuesday night, July 23, 2019, the Planning Board reviewed the recommendation to designate the property as an area in need of redevelopment, nothing more.
As part of that review, there have been a number of comments and questions mostly initiated in reference to the current tenants at the Pine Plaza Shopping Center. The Mayor and Township Committee have no interest in interceding in the tenancies of these properties and forcing a tenant to leave the premises. There is no agreement or promise with the current owner or the contract purchaser for such action. Again, the Township supports planning tools and techniques to encourage the redevelopment of the Pine Plaza Shopping Center, but at no time does the Township intend to interfere with the relationships between Pine Plaza and its current tenants.
The actions taken by the Planning Board and any future actions of the Township Committee only lend themselves to encourage the redevelopment and better viability of the Pine Plaza Shopping Center.
