As you are aware, a new traffic pattern was initiated last week to prohibit the flow of traffic from The American Road in Morris Plains onto Forest Way. The decision to institute the new pattern was not done capriciously and without taking into consideration the impact it would have on the many residents of Trailwood, Countrywood and the Cedar Knolls Section of the Township. A great deal of time and effort was spent over the past three years evaluating the potential impact of The American Road development and its effect on our community. When completed, the housing development on The American Road will have over 275 residencies similar in scope to overall Trailwood, and an estimated 450 vehicles. The Township conducted a comprehensive effort including a thorough strategic assessment of the following:
The consensus of the Township Committee, after an evaluation of all of the above, was to alter the traffic flow. The decision was to make these changes correspond with the opening of the complex to allow traffic out onto American Rd but to prevent inbound traffic onto Forest Way. The Township recognizes that this will pose an inconvenience to the traveling public but at the same time will improve traffic safety throughout the overall Trailwood and Cedar Knolls areas.
