[ARCHIVED] The Township of Hanover Has Closed All Public Buildings to Public Access

As a precautionary public and employee safety measure, effective March 17, 2020, and until further notice, the Township of Hanover Municipal Complex, Community Center and Department of Public Works Complex & Recycling Center will be closed to the public in an effort to prevent social contact and potential transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

In order for the public to pay taxes and sewer charges, municipal court fees, and various permits and application fees, we have installed a lockbox in the outer lobby of the Municipal Building as a drop-off point. Similarly, we are positioning a table in the outer lobby, with bins for members of the public to pick-up various application forms. Most department application and permit forms may be accessed via our website, but in the interest of accommodating those residents who do not use a computer, we will have forms available in the lobby.

Township employees will continue to work at their respective work stations and ready to assist the public either by phone or e-mail. Please refer to the Staff Directory for this contact information.

Updates will be provided here on the Township’s website and through the media, including when public access can again resume.

Department-specific notices related to this closure:

  • All Recreation Department sponsored programs, activities and events are canceled through April 6, 2020, at which time an assessment will be made if such programs may commence. In addition, all parks and recreation facilities are closed as well.
  • All Senior Club Meetings on Wednesdays are canceled until further notice.
  • Residents can utilize our user-friendly website to pay your tax or sewer bills online. You may also mail in your payments via US Postal Service. If you require assistance please contact the Finance Department at 973-428-2480 or the Sewerage Authority at 973-428-2477.
  • All Hanover and East Hanover Court dates have been suspended until March 27th. Please contact the Violations Bureau at 973-428-2519 with any questions.
  • Residents will not be allowed to enter the DPW complex located at 25 North Jefferson Road in Whippany to drop off any items or the Recycling Center located off Stoney Brook Road. The DPW office will also be closed to the public. Curbside sanitation, recycling collection, and yard waste collection will continue as scheduled. Bulk sanitation collection will be done by appointment only.  Residents need to call the DPW at (973) 428-2495 to schedule an appointment. The DPW is acting out of an abundance of caution as the pandemic runs its course and appreciates the public’s patience, understanding, and use of our curbside collection programs to properly dispose of sanitation, recycling, and bulk items.

We are all working very hard to keep Hanover Township running smoothly and efficiently during this unprecedented time.

All Hanover and East Hanover Court dates have been suspended until April 6th. Previously they were only suspended until March 27th. Please contact the Violations Bureau at 973-428-2519 with any questions.

Update on March 30, 2020:

Due to the continuing COVID-19 State of Emergency, the Township’s Building Department will not be conducting home inspections as it relates to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and portable fire extinguisher installations.

In lieu of such inspections, the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety is requiring that the property owner complete the attached Application and Certification (PDF). Completed forms can be placed in the dropbox in the vestibule of the Municipal Building or returned by mail and addressed as follows:
